Richie Kohler

Richie Kohler is an American deep-sea explorer, underwater archaeologist, and author. He is best known for his work on the SS Andrea Doria and the RMS Titanic, two of the most famous shipwrecks in history. Kohler's explorations have contributed significantly to our understanding of these historic events and have been featured in numerous documentaries and publications.

Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Richie Kohler was born and raised in New Jersey, United States. He developed a passion for scuba diving at a young age and quickly advanced to become a certified technical diver. His early diving experiences in the waters off the New Jersey coast sparked his interest in shipwreck exploration and underwater archaeology.

SS Andrea Doria[edit | edit source]

In the late 1990s, Kohler began diving the wreck of the SS Andrea Doria, an Italian ocean liner that sank off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1956. His explorations of the wreck have led to several significant discoveries, including the identification of the ship's purser's safe and the recovery of numerous artifacts.

RMS Titanic[edit | edit source]

Kohler's work on the RMS Titanic began in 2005 when he joined an expedition to the wreck site led by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His dives to the Titanic have provided valuable insights into the ship's sinking and have helped to preserve its legacy for future generations.

In addition to his exploration work, Kohler is also a successful author and media personality. His book, Shadow Divers, co-written with John Chatterton, details their experiences diving the SS Andrea Doria and has become a bestseller.
