- Ridgeland is a small city located in Jasper County, South Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Jasper County and is part of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is known for its rich history, southern charm, and beautiful natural surroundings.

- Ridgeland was originally known as Gopher Hill in the 1890s, a name derived from the abundance of gopher tortoises that inhabited the area. It was later renamed Ridgeland for the high, sandy ridge upon which the town was built.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Ridgeland is located at the center of Jasper County. It is approximately 26 miles north of Savannah, Georgia and 95 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. The city is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge and the ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge.
