Rob Stewart

Rob Stewart is a Canadian filmmaker, photographer, conservationist, and activist known for his work in ocean conservation. He is best known for his award-winning documentaries, including Sharkwater and Revolution, which have been instrumental in changing global policies around shark conservation.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Stewart was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He developed a passion for wildlife and the environment at a young age, which led him to study biology at the University of Western Ontario. He also studied photography and cinematography in order to better communicate his passion for conservation.

Career[edit | edit source]

Stewart began his career as a wildlife photographer, but soon turned to filmmaking as a way to reach a larger audience. His first film, Sharkwater, was released in 2006 and brought the issue of shark finning to the global stage. The film won numerous awards and led to changes in government policy and corporate practices.

In 2012, Stewart released Revolution, a film that expanded on the themes of Sharkwater and explored the broader environmental crisis facing the planet. The film was also critically acclaimed and won several awards.

Stewart continued to work on conservation projects until his death in 2017. His final film, Sharkwater Extinction, was released posthumously in 2018.

Stewart's work has had a significant impact on ocean conservation. His films have been credited with raising awareness about the plight of sharks and the broader environmental crisis. In recognition of his contributions, several awards and scholarships have been established in his name.
