Robert Rental was born in the United Kingdom in 1952. He began his music career in the late 1970s, experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines to create unique sounds that would later influence the industrial music movement.

Rental gained recognition for his solo work as well as his collaborations with artists such as Daniel Miller of The Normal and Thomas Leer. His most notable collaboration was with Daniel Miller on the album Live at West Runton Pavilion, which showcased their innovative approach to electronic music.

Despite his contributions to the music scene, Robert Rental remained relatively unknown to mainstream audiences. He continued to produce music independently, pushing the boundaries of electronic music and inspiring future generations of experimental musicians.
