Rollo Russell
Rollo Russell (1849–1914) was a British meteorologist, author, and the son of the famous British Prime Minister John Russell, 1st Earl Russell. He made significant contributions to the field of meteorology and was known for his work on the study of fog and climate change.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Rollo Russell was born on 3 May 1849. He was the youngest son of John Russell, 1st Earl Russell and his second wife, Lady Frances Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound. He was educated at Harrow School and later attended Trinity College, Cambridge, where he developed an interest in the natural sciences.

Russell's career was marked by his dedication to the study of meteorology. He was particularly interested in the phenomena of fog and its effects on health and the environment. His notable works include "The Atmosphere in Relation to Human Life and Health" and "London Fogs."
Contributions to Meteorology[edit | edit source]
Rollo Russell conducted extensive research on the causes and effects of fog, particularly in urban areas like London. He was one of the early proponents of the idea that human activities, such as industrial emissions, significantly contributed to the formation of fog and other atmospheric conditions.
