Ron Hamilton (musician)
Ron Hamilton (born December 9, 1950), also known by his alter ego Patch the Pirate, is an American composer, songwriter, singer, and Christian children's music performer. Hamilton is widely recognized for his contributions to Christian music and children's ministry through his creation of the Patch the Pirate audio dramas, music albums, and adventure series, which are produced by Majesty Music, a Christian music publishing company co-founded by Hamilton.
Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]
Ron Hamilton was born in Indiana, and his early interest in music led him to pursue a degree in music education from Bob Jones University. After graduating, Hamilton taught music in Christian schools and served as a church music director. His career took a significant turn in 1978 when he lost his left eye to cancer. This event led to him wearing an eye patch and eventually adopting the persona of Patch the Pirate for his children's music ministry.
Patch the Pirate[edit | edit source]
The character of Patch the Pirate was born out of Hamilton's desire to create engaging, moral, and Biblically-based content for children. The first Patch the Pirate adventure was released in 1981, and it quickly grew in popularity among children and families within the Christian community. Each adventure is a combination of story and song that teaches biblical principles in a fun and memorable way.
The Patch the Pirate series has expanded over the years to include over 40 albums, each featuring a unique adventure with moral and spiritual lessons. The series also includes books, sheet music, and other related materials designed to help children grow in their faith and character.
Majesty Music[edit | edit source]
In addition to his work as Patch the Pirate, Ron Hamilton co-founded Majesty Music in 1977 with Frank Garlock. Majesty Music has been a significant force in Christian music, publishing not only the Patch the Pirate series but also a wide range of choral and instrumental music for church and school use. Hamilton's compositions and arrangements are known for their doctrinal soundness and musical excellence.
