Rotberger[edit | edit source]

Rotberger is a grape variety used in the production of red wine. It was created in 1928 by crossing the Trollinger and Riesling varieties. The grape is primarily grown in Germany, where it is used to produce both still and sparkling wines.

History[edit | edit source]

Rotberger was created in 1928 by August Herold at the grape breeding institute in Weinsberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The grape is a cross between Trollinger and Riesling. It was named after the town of Rotberg in Württemberg, where the grape breeding institute is located.

Viticulture[edit | edit source]

Rotberger is a mid to late-ripening grape variety. It is resistant to most diseases and pests, making it relatively easy to cultivate. The grape is primarily grown in the Württemberg and Baden regions of Germany, although it can also be found in small quantities in other wine-producing regions around the world.

Wine Production[edit | edit source]

Rotberger is used to produce a variety of wines, including still, semi-sparkling, and sparkling wines. The wines produced from this grape are typically light to medium-bodied, with a bright red color and fruity flavors. They are often consumed young, although some producers also make aged versions of Rotberger wines.

Food Pairing[edit | edit source]

Rotberger wines are versatile and can be paired with a wide range of foods. They are particularly well-suited to pairing with traditional German dishes, such as Bratwurst and Sauerkraut, as well as with poultry, pork, and a variety of cheeses.
