SLC22A13
SLC22A13 also known as Organic Cation Transporter 4 (OCT4) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC22A13 gene. It is a member of the solute carrier family of proteins, which are responsible for the transport of a variety of molecules across the cell membrane.
Function[edit | edit source]
SLC22A13 is an organic cation transporter capable of transporting a variety of drugs and other organic compounds. The exact substrates of SLC22A13 are not known, but it is thought to play a role in the transport of small organic cations in the kidney, liver, and other tissues.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the SLC22A13 gene have been associated with a variety of diseases, including chronic kidney disease and certain types of cancer. However, the exact role of SLC22A13 in these diseases is not fully understood.

Research into the function and role of SLC22A13 in disease is ongoing. Current research is focused on identifying the exact substrates of SLC22A13 and understanding how mutations in the SLC22A13 gene contribute to disease.
