SLC27A3

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

SLC27A3 is a gene that encodes a member of the fatty acid transport protein (FATP) family. This protein is involved in the uptake of long-chain and very long-chain fatty acids into cells. It is also involved in the transport of these fatty acids between various intracellular compartments. The SLC27A3 gene is located on chromosome 19 in humans.

Function[edit | edit source]

The protein encoded by the SLC27A3 gene is a member of the fatty acid transport proteins (FATPs) family. These proteins play a crucial role in the uptake and transport of long-chain and very long-chain fatty acids into cells. They are also involved in the transport of these fatty acids between various intracellular compartments.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the SLC27A3 gene have been associated with various diseases. For example, a study found that a mutation in this gene was associated with Ichthyosis, a group of skin disorders characterized by dry, scaly skin.
