Saint Joseph's University (SJU) is a private Jesuit university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1851, it is one of the 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU). The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

Saint Joseph's University was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851 as Saint Joseph's College. The institution was originally located in the Old City section of Philadelphia. In 1927, the college moved to its current location on City Avenue, straddling the line between Philadelphia and Lower Merion.

Academics[edit | edit source]

Saint Joseph's University offers more than 60 undergraduate majors, 53 graduate programs, and a variety of doctoral programs. The university is organized into several schools and colleges, including the Haub School of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Health Studies and Education.

The main campus of Saint Joseph's University is located on City Avenue, which serves as the boundary between Philadelphia and Lower Merion. The campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings, including Barbelin Hall, the university's iconic structure. The university also operates a satellite campus in Merion Station.

Saint Joseph's University is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and competes in NCAA Division I sports. The university's athletic teams are known as the Hawks, and their mascot, "The Hawk," is famous for never stopping flapping its wings during games.
