Sam Schmidt

Sam Schmidt is a former professional race car driver from the United States. He was born on August 15, 1964, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Schmidt began his racing career in the 1980s and competed in various racing series, including the Indy Racing League (IRL) and the IndyCar Series.

Schmidt achieved success as a driver, winning races and earning accolades for his skill behind the wheel. However, his career took a tragic turn in 2000 when he was involved in a serious racing accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite this life-changing injury, Schmidt remained involved in motorsports and transitioned to a new role as a team owner.

In 2001, Schmidt founded Sam Schmidt Motorsports (now known as Arrow McLaren SP), a successful racing team that competes in the NTT IndyCar Series. As a team owner, Schmidt has continued to make a significant impact on the sport, fielding competitive cars and nurturing talented drivers.

Beyond his racing endeavors, Schmidt is also known for his philanthropic work. He established the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation to support individuals with spinal cord injuries and fund research into paralysis treatment and cure.

Sam Schmidt's resilience and determination in the face of adversity have made him an inspirational figure in the world of motorsports and beyond.
