Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a South Korean multinational electronics company headquartered in Suwon, South Korea. It is a flagship subsidiary of the Samsung Group, accounting for approximately 70% of the group's revenue in 2012. Samsung Electronics has played a key role in the group's corporate governance due to circular ownership. Samsung Electronics has assembly plants and sales networks in 74 countries and employs around 290,000 people.

Samsung Electronics was founded as a separate entity from the larger Samsung Group in 1969 in Suwon, South Korea. Initially, the company produced television sets, microwave ovens, and other consumer electronics. In the 1980s, Samsung entered the semiconductor business, producing its first integrated circuits for the television industry. By the 1990s, Samsung had diversified into mobile phones and computing hardware.
