San Leandro is a city located in Alameda County, California, United States. It is situated on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, between the cities of Oakland to the northwest and Hayward to the southeast.

San Leandro was first settled by Spanish explorers in the late 18th century. It was incorporated as a city on March 21, 1872. The city experienced rapid growth during the early 20th century, fueled by the expansion of the nearby city of Oakland and the development of the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Leandro covers a total area of 15.54 square miles, with 13.34 square miles of land and 2.20 square miles of water. The city is located at an elevation of 13 feet above sea level.
