Scatman
Scatman John (born John Paul Larkin; March 13, 1942 – December 3, 1999) was an American musician who created a fusion of scat singing and dance music, best known for his 1995 hits "Scatman (Ski Ba Bop Ba Dop Bop)" and "Scatman's World".

John Paul Larkin was born in El Monte, California, on March 13, 1942, and was of Irish, English, and Scottish descent. He suffered from a severe stutter by the time he learned to speak, which led to an emotionally traumatic childhood.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1990, Larkin moved to Berlin, where he found the inspiration to create the character "Scatman John". He was a prolific artist, releasing five studio albums and one compilation album. His first major success came with the release of his second album, Scatman's World.
Death[edit | edit source]
Larkin died of lung cancer on December 3, 1999, at his home in Los Angeles.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Larkin's work has been recognized for its positive message and his success despite his speech impediment. His song "Scatman (Ski Ba Bop Ba Dop Bop)" has been used in various media and has been covered by numerous artists.
