Schloss Gobelsburg is a historic castle and winery located in the Kamptal region of Lower Austria. The castle has a rich history dating back to the 12th century and is known for producing some of the finest Austrian wines.

History[edit | edit source]

Schloss Gobelsburg was first mentioned in historical documents in 1178. Over the centuries, it has been owned by various noble families and religious orders. In 1740, the castle was acquired by the Cistercian monks of Zwettl Abbey, who began cultivating vines on the estate. The winery has been in continuous operation since then, making it one of the oldest in Austria.

The winery practices traditional winemaking methods, including the use of large, old oak casks for fermentation and aging. The vineyards are managed sustainably, with a focus on preserving the natural environment and biodiversity.
