Sean Morey (American football)
Sean Morey (born February 26, 1976) is a former American football wide receiver and special teams player. He played college football at Brown University and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Early life and college career[edit | edit source]
Morey was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He attended Marshfield High School, where he excelled in football and track. Morey then attended Brown University, where he played for the Brown Bears football team. During his college career, he set several school records and was named an All-American.
Professional career[edit | edit source]
New England Patriots[edit | edit source]
Morey was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent the 1999 season on the Patriots' practice squad.
Philadelphia Eagles[edit | edit source]
In 2001, Morey signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played primarily on special teams and was known for his tenacity and work ethic.
Pittsburgh Steelers[edit | edit source]
Morey joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2004. He was a key special teams player and was part of the Steelers team that won Super Bowl XL.
Arizona Cardinals[edit | edit source]
In 2007, Morey signed with the Arizona Cardinals. He continued to excel on special teams and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2008. Morey played in Super Bowl XLIII with the Cardinals.
Seattle Seahawks[edit | edit source]
Morey signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 but retired before the season began due to concerns about concussions and long-term health.
Post-football career[edit | edit source]
After retiring from professional football, Morey became an advocate for player safety, particularly concerning concussions and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). He has worked with the NFL Players Association and other organizations to improve health and safety standards in football.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Morey is married and has children. He is involved in various charitable activities and continues to promote awareness about the long-term health effects of playing football.
