Seinfeld
Seinfeld is an American television sitcom that originally aired on NBC from July 5, 1989, to May 14, 1998, over nine seasons and 180 episodes. Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, the show stars Seinfeld as a fictionalized version of himself, and primarily focuses on his personal life with a group of friends and acquaintances, including best friend George Costanza (Jason Alexander), former girlfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and neighbor across the hall Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards).
Premise[edit | edit source]
Seinfeld is often described as "a show about nothing," focusing on the minutiae of daily life. Unlike other sitcoms of its time, Seinfeld eschews a traditional storyline and instead presents a series of unrelated events that are often interconnected in some way by the end of the episode. The series is set predominantly in an apartment building in Manhattan's Upper West Side in New York City, where Jerry's apartment serves as a central hub. The show also features various other locations, including the diner Monk's Café, where the characters frequently gather.

- Jerry Seinfeld - Playing a semi-fictional version of himself, Jerry is a stand-up comedian who is often portrayed as "the voice of reason" amidst the chaos that surrounds him.
- George Costanza - Jerry's best friend since high school, George is neurotic, self-loathing, and perpetually unlucky in life, especially in matters of love and employment.
- Elaine Benes - Elaine is Jerry's ex-girlfriend and later friend, known for her assertive personality and somewhat tumultuous relationships.
- Cosmo Kramer - Kramer is Jerry's eccentric neighbor, known for his flamboyant mannerisms and harebrained schemes.
Legacy[edit | edit source]

The show has also been credited with influencing the sitcom genre, with its unique approach to comedy focusing on the trivial aspects of everyday life. It has received numerous awards, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1993, and has been ranked among the greatest television shows of all time by various publications.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Throughout its run, Seinfeld received critical acclaim and was a ratings hit. It remains highly popular in syndication and has a dedicated fan base. The series finale was watched by over 76 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched television finales in history.
Impact on Popular Culture[edit | edit source]
