Self-defense

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Self-defense (or self-defence in some varieties of English) is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm. The use of the right of self-defense as a legal justification for the use of force in times of danger is available in many jurisdictions.

Legal Position[edit | edit source]

The legal position of self-defense varies considerably around the world. In many jurisdictions, the use of self-defense as a legal justification for the use of force is limited by a requirement of immediacy, while others have a much broader definition. Some jurisdictions allow the use of force in response to a non-immediate threat, while others require an immediate threat.

Types of Self-Defense[edit | edit source]

There are several types of self-defense, including physical self-defense, self-defense in law, and self-defense in mental health.

Physical Self-Defense[edit | edit source]

Physical self-defense is the use of physical force to counter an immediate threat of violence. This force can be either armed or unarmed.

Self-Defense in Law[edit | edit source]

In the legal context, self-defense is justified use of force by the defendant, who reasonably believes that they are in imminent danger.

Self-Defense in Mental Health[edit | edit source]

In the context of mental health, self-defense is a set of techniques used to cope with stressful and threatening situations.
