- Semmes is a city in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. It is a part of the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. Originally an unincorporated community, voters in Semmes approved incorporation of a part of the community as the city of Semmes on August 17, 2010.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Semmes is located at 30.778N, -88.259W. The city is situated in the far southwestern corner of the state of Alabama, and is only a short drive from the Gulf of Mexico.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
- As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 2,897. The city has a total area of 2,100 acres. The majority of the population is white, with a significant minority of African Americans and a small population of Hispanics and other races.
Healthcare Facilities[edit | edit source]
- Semmes is home to several well-known healthcare facilities. These include:
- Providence Hospital: A 349-bed full service, acute care medical facility that has been serving the Mobile area for more than 160 years.
- Mobile Infirmary Medical Center: The largest non-governmental hospital in Alabama, with more than 500 physicians and 3,000 employees.
- Springhill Medical Center: A full service hospital serving the Mobile area with a wide range of medical and surgical services.

- Semmes is served by the Mobile County Public School System. It has several public schools, including Semmes Elementary, Semmes Middle, and Mary G. Montgomery High School.
