Shannon N. Zenk is an American nurse and researcher known for her work in public health and nursing research. She is the Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Shannon Zenk was born and raised in the United States. She pursued her undergraduate education in nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). She furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in health behavior and health education. Her academic journey laid the foundation for her career in nursing research and public health.

Zenk began her career as a registered nurse, working in various clinical settings. Her experiences in healthcare fueled her interest in research, particularly in understanding how social and environmental factors influence health. In 2020, Zenk was appointed as the Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research.
