Somerset County is located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,470. It is the southernmost county in Maryland and the state's third-most populous county. The county seat is Princess Anne.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Somerset County is located on the state's Eastern Shore. It is bordered by Wicomico County to the north, Worcester County to the east, and Dorchester County to the west. The county's eastern boundary is the Atlantic Ocean.

Somerset County was established in 1666 by English colonists. It was named for Mary, Lady Somerset, the wife of Sir John Somerset and daughter of Thomas Arundell, 1st Baron Arundell of Wardour.
