Spot Goes to Hollywood is a platform game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Virgin Interactive. It is a sequel to the game Cool Spot and was released for the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Sony PlayStation in 1995 and 1996.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

The game features the character Spot, the red mascot for 7 Up, navigating through various levels inspired by different movie genres. Unlike its predecessor, which was a side-scrolling platformer, Spot Goes to Hollywood is played from an isometric perspective. Players must guide Spot through levels filled with enemies, obstacles, and puzzles, collecting items and power-ups along the way.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The story begins with Spot being sucked into a movie projector, which transports him into various film-themed worlds. Each world is based on a different genre, such as pirate adventures, science fiction, and horror. Spot must navigate through these worlds, defeat bosses, and ultimately find a way to return to the real world.

Development[edit | edit source]

Spot Goes to Hollywood was developed by Traveller's Tales, a British video game developer known for their work on various licensed titles. The game was published by Virgin Interactive, a company that was active in the video game industry during the 1990s.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The game received mixed reviews upon release. Critics praised the game's graphics and level design but criticized its isometric perspective, which made controlling Spot more difficult compared to the original Cool Spot. Despite this, Spot Goes to Hollywood has maintained a cult following among fans of classic platform games.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Spot Goes to Hollywood is remembered as a unique entry in the platform game genre due to its isometric perspective and movie-themed levels. It remains a notable example of 1990s video game design and the use of mascots in marketing.
