Square metre
Square metre (or square meter, symbol: m²) is the SI derived unit of area. It is defined as the area of a square whose sides measure exactly one metre. The square metre is derived from the SI base units of the metre, which is the unit of length. It is used worldwide as a common measure of area for various applications, from land measurement to the calculation of the size of an apartment or house.
Definition[edit | edit source]
The square metre is defined as the area of a square with sides that are one metre in length. The formula to calculate the area of a square is side length squared, which in the case of a square metre is 1m * 1m = 1m². This unit is part of the International System of Units (SI), which is the modern form of the metric system.
