St. Alexius Medical Center (Illinois)
St. Alexius Medical Center is a faith-based community hospital located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago. It is part of the AMITA Health network.
History[edit | edit source]
St. Alexius Medical Center was founded by the Alexian Brothers, a Roman Catholic order. It has a level II trauma center and offers a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. The hospital employs over 950 physicians and more than 1800 employees.
In October 2021, AMITA Health announced its split-up. Under the separation, AdventHealth and Ascension would manage their respective facilities. Ascension maintains control over the five hospitals and outpatient facilities in the Alexian Brothers Health System.
Covid-19[edit | edit source]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Alexius Medical Center treated two of the first COVID-19 cases in the United States, including the first known case in Illinois. The hospital played a crucial role in providing care and treatment during the pandemic.
