Stabilized images
Stabilized images refer to the process of reducing the blurring associated with the motion of a camera during exposure. This is particularly important in photography and videography, where image stabilization can greatly improve the quality of the final product.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Image stabilization is a technique used to reduce blurring associated with the motion of a camera during exposure. This is achieved by stabilizing the recorded image over a series of frames, which can be done either by physical stabilization of the camera, or by software post-processing.
Types of Image Stabilization[edit | edit source]
There are two main types of image stabilization: Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Digital Image Stabilization (DIS).
Optical Image Stabilization[edit | edit source]
Optical Image Stabilization involves physically moving elements within the camera lens to counteract camera shake. This is typically achieved using gyroscopes to detect the motion of the camera, and then moving the lens or sensor to counteract that motion.
Digital Image Stabilization[edit | edit source]
Digital Image Stabilization, on the other hand, is a software process that works by shifting the electronic image from frame to frame of video, enough to counteract the motion. It uses pixels outside the border of the visible frame to provide a buffer for the motion.
Applications[edit | edit source]
Stabilized images are used in a variety of applications, including photography, videography, astronomy, and medicine. In photography and videography, image stabilization can help to reduce the blurring caused by camera shake, particularly in low light conditions or when using a long lens. In astronomy, it can help to reduce the effects of atmospheric turbulence, while in medicine, it can be used to improve the quality of images taken during procedures such as endoscopy.
