Steve Rogers (29 November 1954 – 3 January 2006) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and administrator. He played primarily as a centre and occasionally as a five-eighth or fullback. Rogers is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

Early Life

Steve Rogers was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He began playing rugby league at a young age and quickly showed promise as a talented player.

Playing Career

Rogers made his first-grade debut for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 1973. He played for the Sharks until 1982, becoming one of the club's most iconic players. During his time with the Sharks, Rogers was known for his speed, agility, and skill on the field.

In 1983, Rogers joined the St. George Dragons and played with them until 1984. He then returned to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks for the 1985 season before retiring from professional rugby league.

Representative Career

Steve Rogers represented New South Wales in the State of Origin series and played for the Australian national team. He was a key player in several international matches and was known for his leadership and sportsmanship.

Post-Playing Career

After retiring as a player, Rogers took on various administrative roles within the sport. He served as the CEO of the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and was involved in the development and promotion of rugby league in Australia.

Steve Rogers was married and had two children, including Mat Rogers, who also became a professional rugby league and rugby union player.
