Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Steven Best was born in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, where he developed an interest in philosophy. He later pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in the field of Continental Philosophy.
Career[edit | edit source]
Best began his academic career as a professor at the University of Texas at El Paso. His research interests include Postmodernism, Cultural Studies, and Critical Animal Studies. He has published numerous articles and books on these topics, making significant contributions to the field.
In addition to his academic work, Best is also known for his activism in the field of animal rights. He is a co-founder of the Animal Liberation Press Office, an organization that provides information to the media about animal liberation actions. He has also been involved in various campaigns against animal testing and factory farming.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
Best's activism has often been controversial. He has been criticized by some for his support of direct action tactics, which can include illegal activities such as animal liberation and property destruction. However, Best argues that these tactics are necessary to bring about change in a society that is deeply entrenched in speciesism.
Publications[edit | edit source]
Some of Best's notable publications include The Politics of Total Liberation: Revolution for the 21st Century and Terrorists or Freedom Fighters? Reflections on the Liberation of Animals. These works explore the philosophical underpinnings of the animal liberation movement and argue for a radical rethinking of human-animal relations.
