Susan K. Gregurick

Susan K. Gregurick is an esteemed biophysicist and bioinformatics specialist, currently serving as the Associate Director for Data Science and Director of the Office of Data Science Strategy at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Gregurick was born and raised in America. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Physics and Mathematics at Bates College, graduating in 1991. She then went on to earn her Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1997.

Career[edit | edit source]

Following her Ph.D., Gregurick worked as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF) where she managed and created programs in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Directorate.

In 2013, she joined the Department of Energy (DOE) as the Division Director for Biological Systems Science. Here, she led initiatives in computational biology, bioenergy, microbiome, and synthetic biology.

In September 2019, Gregurick was appointed by the NIH as the Associate Director for Data Science and Director of the Office of Data Science Strategy. Her role involves coordinating and implementing key data science initiatives and programs across NIH.

Gregurick's research primarily focuses on the computational modeling of biomolecular systems. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of protein structure, dynamics, and function.

Awards and Honors[edit | edit source]

Throughout her career, Gregurick has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the field of biophysics and bioinformatics, including the NSF's Director's Award for Collaborative Integration in 2010.
