Swizzels Matlow

Swizzels Matlow is a British confectionery manufacturer based in New Mills, Derbyshire, near Stockport. The company has been in operation since 1928, making it one of the longest running confectionery manufacturers in the United Kingdom.

Swizzels Matlow was founded by Alfred and Maurice Matlow, two brothers who initially started their business in London. The company moved to its current location in New Mills during the Second World War to avoid the heavy bombing in London.

Products[edit | edit source]

Swizzels Matlow is known for its wide range of sweets, which include Love Hearts, Drumstick lollies, Parma Violets, and Refreshers. These products have become iconic in the British confectionery industry and are recognised worldwide.

Love Hearts[edit | edit source]

Love Hearts are small, circular sweets that have a heart shape and a short, romantic message on one side. They were first produced in 1954 and have since become a popular gift for Valentine's Day.

Drumstick Lollies[edit | edit source]

Drumstick lollies are a type of lollipop that was first produced in 1957. They are known for their unique raspberry and milk flavour.

Parma Violets[edit | edit source]

Parma Violets are small, violet-flavoured sweets that were first produced in the 1940s. They are named after the Parma violet flower, which they resemble in both colour and scent.

Refreshers[edit | edit source]

Refreshers are chewy, fizzy sweets that were first produced in the 1950s. They are known for their unique sherbet centre.
