A syndrome is a set of signs, symptoms and characteristics which are usually seen in a particular disease stage, or condition.

Etiology[edit]

The word syndrome comes from two words in Greek, "syn", which means "together", and "drome", which means "run".

Collection of findings[edit]

Syndrome is a collection of findings, both symptoms, signs and characteristics or features, that you tend to see in a number of individuals who otherwise aren't related.

Naming of syndromes[edit]

While the naming of syndromes varies based on the syndrome, most syndromes are named after the physician who first noticed them in people such as Down syndrome was first noticed by a Dr. Down and Marfan syndrome by Dr. Marfan.
