TENT5D

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

TENT5D (Terminal Nucleotidyltransferase 5D) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TENT5D gene. This protein is part of the non-canonical poly(A) RNA polymerase (ncPAP) family, which is involved in the addition of a poly(A) tail to RNA molecules. The poly(A) tail is a crucial component of mRNA stability and translation efficiency.

Function[edit | edit source]

TENT5D is a non-canonical poly(A) RNA polymerase that adds a poly(A) tail to RNA molecules. The poly(A) tail is a string of adenine nucleotides added to the 3' end of a pre-mRNA molecule. The addition of the poly(A) tail to an RNA molecule is a critical step in the process of gene expression.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the TENT5D gene have been associated with various diseases, although the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Further research is needed to elucidate the role of TENT5D in human health and disease.
