TNFRSF13B

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

TNFRSF13B (Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 13B), also known as TACI, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TNFRSF13B gene. It is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily.

Function[edit | edit source]

TNFRSF13B is a lymphocyte-specific member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. It interacts with calcium-modulator and cyclophilin ligand (CAML). The protein plays a crucial role in B-cell development and autoimmune disease. Mutations in this gene have been associated with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), IgA deficiency, and autoimmunity.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the TNFRSF13B gene have been associated with various immunodeficiency diseases, including Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) and Selective IgA Deficiency (SIgAD). These conditions are characterized by low levels of antibodies, leading to an increased susceptibility to infections.
