Taburno DOC
Taburno DOC is a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wine designation for red and white wines produced in the region of Campania, Italy. The designation was granted in 1986, and the wines produced under this label are known for their high quality and distinctive characteristics.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of wine production in the Taburno region dates back to the Roman Empire, when the area was known for its fertile soil and favorable climate for viticulture. The region's wine production continued through the Middle Ages and into the modern era, with the establishment of the Taburno DOC in 1986.
Geography and Climate[edit | edit source]
The Taburno DOC region is located in the province of Benevento in Campania. The area is characterized by its hilly terrain and Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The soils in the region are primarily volcanic, which contributes to the unique flavor profile of the wines.
Grape Varieties[edit | edit source]
The Taburno DOC allows for the production of both red and white wines. The primary grape varieties used in the production of Taburno DOC wines are Aglianico for red wines and Falanghina for white wines. Other permitted grape varieties include Coda di Volpe, Greco, and Fiano.
Wine Production[edit | edit source]
Wine production in the Taburno DOC follows strict regulations to ensure the quality and authenticity of the wines. The wines must be produced within the designated area and must adhere to specific grape variety compositions. Red wines must contain at least 85% Aglianico, while white wines must contain at least 85% Falanghina.
Wine Styles and Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Taburno DOC wines are known for their complexity and balance. Red wines are typically full-bodied and rich, with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earth. White wines are typically medium-bodied and aromatic, with flavors of citrus, apple, and floral notes.
