Tamba Boimah Hali (born November 3, 1983) is a former American football linebacker who played all 12 seasons of his National Football League (NFL) career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Born in Liberia, Hali fled to the United States during the First Liberian Civil War, eventually settling in Teaneck, New Jersey. He played college football at Pennsylvania State University, where he earned All-American honors. Hali was selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Tamba Hali was born in Gbarnga, Liberia. During his childhood, Liberia was ravaged by civil war, leading his mother to send him to the United States at the age of 10 for his safety. Hali settled in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his father, who had already fled to the U.S. He attended Teaneck High School, where he excelled in football, earning statewide honors.

College Career[edit | edit source]

Hali attended Pennsylvania State University, where he played for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team from 2002 to 2005. Under the guidance of coach Joe Paterno, he developed into one of the top defensive players in the country. In his senior year, Hali was recognized as a consensus All-American, and he led the Big Ten Conference in sacks.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Hali with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Transitioning from college defensive end to professional outside linebacker in the Chiefs' 3-4 defense, Hali quickly became one of the league's premier pass rushers. Over his career, he was named to six Pro Bowls and earned Second-team All-Pro honors in 2013. Hali's relentless work ethic, combined with his unique pass-rushing skills, made him a cornerstone of the Chiefs' defense for over a decade.
