Tangled is a 2010 American computer-animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film is loosely based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Rapunzel". It is the 50th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animation Studios canon.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The story follows Rapunzel, a young princess with magical long blonde hair who has been locked in a tower for years by a woman named Mother Gothel. Rapunzel dreams of leaving her tower to explore the outside world. One day, a thief named Flynn Rider scales the tower and is taken captive by Rapunzel. She strikes a deal with Flynn to act as her guide to travel to the place where the floating lanterns are released every year on her birthday.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • Rapunzel - The lost princess with magical hair.
  • Flynn Rider - A charming thief who becomes Rapunzel's guide and love interest.
  • Mother Gothel - The antagonist who kidnaps Rapunzel to use her magical hair to stay young.
  • Pascal - Rapunzel's loyal chameleon companion.
  • Maximus - A determined horse who initially pursues Flynn but later helps him and Rapunzel.

Production[edit | edit source]

The film was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, with music composed by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater. The animation was done using a combination of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery (CGI). The film's visual style was inspired by the painting "The Swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard.

Music[edit | edit source]

The film features songs written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Notable songs include "When Will My Life Begin?", "I See the Light", and "Mother Knows Best".

Release and Reception[edit | edit source]

Tangled was released on November 24, 2010, and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It was praised for its animation, characters, and musical score. The film grossed $592.4 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 2010.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Tangled has since become a beloved film in the Disney Princess franchise. It has inspired a franchise that includes a short film titled Tangled Ever After, a television series titled Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, and various merchandise.
