Tbilisi State University (TSU), officially known as Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, is a public research university located in Tbilisi, Georgia. Founded in 1918, it is the oldest university in the Caucasus region and has played a pivotal role in the development of higher education in Georgia.

Tbilisi State University was established on February 8, 1918, by a group of Georgian intellectuals led by Ivane Javakhishvili, a prominent historian and academic. The university was founded during a period of national revival and was the first institution of higher education in the Caucasus region.
