Telangana Pollution Control Board
Telangana Pollution Control Board (TPCB) is a statutory authority entrusted with the task of implementing environmental laws and regulations within the state of Telangana, India. The board is responsible for the prevention, control, and abatement of environmental pollution in Telangana. It ensures the maintenance of clean air, water, and soil, and oversees the disposal of hazardous waste in an environmentally friendly manner.

The Telangana Pollution Control Board was established after the formation of the state of Telangana in June 2014, following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The board was created to ensure the effective enforcement of the environmental laws in the newly formed state, inheriting the responsibilities from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board for the region that became Telangana.
Functions[edit | edit source]
The primary functions of the TPCB include:
- Monitoring of industrial and environmental pollution and ecological changes to assess their impact on the environment.
- Planning and executing comprehensive programs for the prevention, control, or abatement of pollution in the state.
- Advising the state government on any matter concerning the prevention, control, or abatement of environmental pollution.
- Coordinating with other governmental and non-governmental organizations related to environmental protection.
- Issuing consents to establish and operate for industries under the provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

The TPCB is headed by a Chairman and comprises members who are experts in various environmental and administrative fields. The board operates through its head office located in Hyderabad and has regional offices across the state to ensure widespread environmental governance.

The Telangana Pollution Control Board undertakes various initiatives aimed at environmental conservation, including:
- Conducting environmental awareness programs to educate the public and industries about the importance of pollution control.
