Telemundo is an American Spanish-language terrestrial television network owned by NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, a division of NBCUniversal, which is a subsidiary of Comcast. It is the second-largest provider of Spanish-language content in the United States, behind Univision, with programming syndicated worldwide to more than 100 countries in over 35 languages.

Telemundo was founded in 1954 by Ángel Ramos, owner of Puerto Rico's main newspaper, El Mundo. The network was originally known as WKAQ-TV and was based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1984, the network was acquired by John Blair & Co., which later sold it to Reliance Group Holdings in 1987. In 2001, Telemundo was purchased by NBC, which merged with Vivendi Universal in 2004 to form NBCUniversal.

Programming[edit | edit source]

Telemundo's programming consists of original content, including telenovelas, sports, reality television, news programming, and films. The network is known for its high-quality telenovelas, which are often produced in collaboration with international partners. Some of the most popular telenovelas include La Reina del Sur, El Señor de los Cielos, and Betty en NY.

News and Sports[edit | edit source]

Telemundo operates a news division, Noticias Telemundo, which produces national and international news programming. The network also holds the Spanish-language broadcast rights to major sports events, including the FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games, and NFL games.

Telemundo Stations[edit | edit source]

Telemundo owns and operates 18 stations across the United States and Puerto Rico. Additionally, the network has over 50 affiliate stations that broadcast its programming in various markets.

Telemundo Internacional[edit | edit source]

Telemundo Internacional is the international distribution arm of Telemundo, responsible for syndicating the network's content to television stations and cable networks around the world. The division also manages the network's international channels, including Telemundo Internacional and Telemundo Africa.
