Tert-Pentanol

Tert-Pentanol (also known as 2-methylbutan-2-ol) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H12O. It is a tertiary alcohol and is classified as a pentanol due to its five-carbon structure. Tert-Pentanol is a colorless liquid with a strong, mint-like odor.

Tert-Pentanol has a branched structure, with the hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to a carbon atom that is itself attached to three other carbon atoms. This makes it a tertiary alcohol. The presence of the hydroxyl group also makes it a member of the alcohol class of organic compounds.

Tert-Pentanol is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It has a strong, mint-like odor and a boiling point of 102.3 °C. It is soluble in water and most organic solvents. It is flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air.

Tert-Pentanol is used in the manufacture of plasticizers, resins, and perfumes. It is also used as a solvent in the pharmaceutical industry and as a flavoring agent in the food industry.

Tert-Pentanol is flammable and should be kept away from heat, sparks, and open flames. It can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Ingestion can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
