Tertenia

Tertenia is a municipality located in the Province of Nuoro, in the Italian region of Sardinia. It is situated approximately 70 kilometers northeast of Cagliari and about 25 kilometers south of Tortolì. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,903 and an area of 102.6 square kilometers.

Tertenia is located in the southeastern part of Sardinia, bordered by the municipalities of Cardedu, Loceri, Lanusei, Ilbono, and Talana. The town is nestled between the sea and the mountains, offering a diverse landscape that includes long beaches, crystal clear waters, and rugged mountains.

The area of Tertenia has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the numerous Nuragic archaeological sites found in the area. The town itself was founded in the Middle Ages and has a rich history that includes periods of Pisan, Aragonese, and Spanish rule.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Tertenia is known for its traditional Sardinian cuisine, which includes dishes such as porceddu (roasted piglet), malloreddus (Sardinian gnocchi), and seadas (cheese-filled pastries). The town also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including the Festival of the Sea in August and the Festival of the Grape Harvest in September.

The economy of Tertenia is primarily based on agriculture, with a focus on the cultivation of grapes, olives, and citrus fruits. The town is also known for its production of high-quality Vermentino wine. In recent years, tourism has become an increasingly important part of the local economy, with visitors drawn to the area's beautiful beaches and rich cultural heritage.
