Texas Tech University
Texas Tech University (TTU), also known as Texas Tech, Tech, or TTU, is a public university located in Lubbock, Texas. Established on February 10, 1923, as Texas Technological College, it is the main institution of the four-institution Texas Tech University System. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across its twelve colleges and schools and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity".

The proposal for a college in West Texas began in 1916, with the Texas legislature passing a bill in 1923 to establish Texas Technological College. The school opened in 1925 with six buildings and an enrollment of 914 students. It became Texas Tech University in 1969 to reflect the growth in the range and depth of its academic offerings and research pursuits.
Campus[edit | edit source]
The Texas Tech campus is located in the South Plains region of Texas, in the city of Lubbock. The campus is known for its Spanish Renaissance architecture, expansive plazas, and lush green spaces. The university's most iconic structure is the Administration Building, with its distinctive red tile roof and central bell tower.

Texas Tech offers more than 150 undergraduate degrees, 100 graduate degrees, and 50 doctoral degrees through its various colleges:

The university is also home to several research institutes and centers, contributing significantly to various fields of study.
Athletics[edit | edit source]
Texas Tech's athletic teams are known as the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders. The university competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Red Raiders have achieved national recognition in sports such as basketball, baseball, and track and field.

Texas Tech is home to a vibrant student life, with over 450 student organizations, including Greek life, professional societies, and special interest clubs. The university also boasts a strong tradition in the arts, with numerous performances and exhibitions held throughout the year.
