Than Nyein (1937 – 21 May 2014) was a prominent Burmese politician and physician. He was a co-founder of the National Democratic Force (NDF), a political party in Myanmar.

Than Nyein was born in 1937 in Myanmar. He pursued a career in medicine, becoming a physician. His medical background played a significant role in his later political career, where he often advocated for healthcare reforms.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Than Nyein was actively involved in the political landscape of Myanmar. He was a member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) before co-founding the National Democratic Force (NDF) in 2010. The NDF was formed by former members of the NLD who chose to contest the 2010 general elections, which the NLD boycotted.
National Democratic Force[edit | edit source]
The National Democratic Force was established to participate in the 2010 general elections in Myanmar. Than Nyein, along with other former NLD members, aimed to continue the struggle for democracy through parliamentary means. The party faced significant challenges in a political environment dominated by the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).

Than Nyein was married and had children. He was known for his dedication to both his medical practice and his political activities. He passed away on 21 May 2014 in Yangon, Myanmar.
