The Woodlands
The Woodlands is a master-planned community and census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston metropolitan area. The community was originally conceived by George P. Mitchell, an oil industry tycoon and real estate developer, and managed by The Woodlands Development Company.

The Woodlands was established in 1974 by George P. Mitchell, who had previously developed the community of Bridgeland. The development was financed by a loan from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Woodlands was designed with a vision of preserving the natural environment while providing a variety of residential and commercial properties.
Geography[edit | edit source]
The Woodlands is located in Montgomery County, and extends into Harris County. The community is situated 28 miles north of Houston along Interstate 45. The Woodlands encompasses approximately 43.9 square miles, with a diverse landscape that includes forests, lakes, and parks.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 United States Census, The Woodlands had a population of 93,847. The community has seen significant growth in recent years, with a population increase of over 68% between 2000 and 2010.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The Woodlands is home to several corporate campuses, including those of ExxonMobil and Chevron Phillips. The community's economy is diverse, with sectors including energy, healthcare, retail, and education.
Education[edit | edit source]
The Woodlands is served by three school districts: Conroe Independent School District, Tomball Independent School District, and Magnolia Independent School District. The community also has several private schools and is home to Lone Star College–Montgomery, a community college.
Recreation and Culture[edit | edit source]
The Woodlands offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including golf courses, hiking and biking trails, and waterways for kayaking and paddleboarding. The community also hosts several annual events, such as The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival and The Woodlands Marathon.
