Theodor Christian Brun Frølich (29 September 1870 – 14 August 1947) was a prominent Norwegian pediatrician and medical researcher. He is best known for his pioneering work on scurvy and the role of vitamin C in its prevention and treatment.

Theodor Frølich was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He pursued his medical education at the University of Oslo, where he graduated with a degree in medicine in 1896.

Frølich began his medical career as a resident at the National Hospital (Rikshospitalet) in Oslo. He later became a professor of pediatrics at the University of Oslo, where he conducted extensive research on nutritional deficiencies and their impact on child health.

Research on Scurvy[edit | edit source]

Frølich's most significant contribution to medical science was his research on scurvy, a disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C. Along with his colleague Axel Holst, Frølich conducted experiments that demonstrated the essential role of vitamin C in preventing scurvy. Their work was instrumental in the eventual identification of vitamin C and its incorporation into dietary recommendations.
