Tibiotarsus

Tibiotarsus is a bone found in the lower leg of birds and certain other species of animals, including some dinosaurs. It is a composite bone that forms from the fusion of the distal end of the tibia and the proximal bones of the tarsus (ankle), a process known as synostosis. This fusion results in a single, elongated bone that plays a crucial role in the support and movement of the leg, particularly in species adapted for running or jumping.

The tibiotarsus is characterized by its length and strength, which are necessary for supporting the body weight and facilitating movement.
