Tom Sietas
Tom Sietas is a German freediver who has held multiple world records in the sport. He was born on January 1, 1977, in Hamburg, Germany. Sietas is best known for his achievements in the discipline of Static Apnea, where he has set several world records.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Sietas was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in water sports, particularly swimming and diving. He studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Hamburg.
Career[edit | edit source]
Sietas began his professional freediving career in the early 2000s. He quickly gained recognition in the freediving community for his exceptional breath-holding abilities. In 2002, he set his first world record in the discipline of Static Apnea with a time of 8 minutes and 58 seconds.
Over the years, Sietas has broken his own records multiple times. His most notable achievement came in 2012 when he set the world record for the longest breath-hold under water, with a time of 22 minutes and 22 seconds. This record was achieved in the discipline of Dynamic Apnea with fins.
Techniques[edit | edit source]
Sietas uses a variety of techniques to maximize his breath-holding abilities. These include meditation to lower his heart rate, hyperventilation to increase his oxygen intake, and physical training to improve his lung capacity.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Sietas's achievements have earned him recognition both within and outside the freediving community. He has been awarded the International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA) World Champion title multiple times.
