Tom Tunney
American politician and businessman
Thomas M. Tunney (born August 22, 1955) is an American politician and businessman who has served as a member of the Chicago City Council since 2003, representing the 44th Ward. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Tunney is also known for his ownership of the Ann Sather Restaurants, a popular chain of restaurants in Chicago.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Tom Tunney was born in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a family that valued education and community service. Tunney attended Brother Rice High School in Chicago. He later pursued higher education at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in restaurant management. Tunney furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Tunney is best known for his successful career in the restaurant industry. In 1981, he purchased the Ann Sather Restaurant, a well-known establishment in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Under his leadership, the restaurant expanded to multiple locations and became a beloved institution in the city, known for its Swedish cuisine and welcoming atmosphere.
