Tomintoul Distillery[edit | edit source]

Tomintoul Distillery is a renowned Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. It is named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland.

History[edit | edit source]

The Tomintoul Distillery was established in 1964 by the whisky brokering firms W. & S. Strong and Hay & MacLeod. In 1973, the distillery was acquired by Scottish & Universal Investment Trust, which later became a part of the Whyte & Mackay group. The distillery was then sold to Angus Dundee Distillers in 2000, who continue to own and operate it today.

Production[edit | edit source]

The distillery has a production capacity of over 3 million litres of spirit per year. The water used in the production process is sourced from the Ballantruan spring. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the core range of Tomintoul Single Malt aged 10, 16, and 25 years. They also produce peated malt whisky under the Old Ballantruan brand.

Visitor Experience[edit | edit source]

The Tomintoul Distillery offers a visitor experience that includes a guided tour of the distillery, a tasting session, and a visit to the distillery shop. The tour provides an insight into the traditional methods of whisky production used at the distillery.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Over the years, the Tomintoul Distillery has received numerous awards for its whiskies. These include gold medals at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
