Tony Christie
Tony Christie (born 25 April 1943) is an English singer and actor. He is best known for his recording of "Is This the Way to Amarillo", a double UK chart success.

Tony Christie was born Anthony Fitzgerald in Conisbrough, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. He developed an interest in music at an early age and began performing in local clubs and pubs.
Career[edit | edit source]
Christie's career began in the 1960s when he joined various bands and started performing in working men's clubs. His breakthrough came in 1971 with the release of "Is This the Way to Amarillo", written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. The song became a major hit in the UK and several other countries.
1970s Success[edit | edit source]
During the 1970s, Christie enjoyed a series of hits including "I Did What I Did for Maria", "Avenues and Alleyways", and "Las Vegas". He became a popular figure on television and radio, and his songs were frequently played on the airwaves.
Later Career[edit | edit source]
In the 1990s and 2000s, Christie experienced a resurgence in popularity. In 2005, "Is This the Way to Amarillo" was re-released to raise funds for the charity Comic Relief. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, introducing Christie to a new generation of fans.

Tony Christie has been married to his wife, Sue, since 1967. They have three children. Christie continues to perform and record music, maintaining a loyal fan base.
