The Toyota Previa, also known as the Toyota Estima in Japan, is a minivan produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota since 1990. The Previa was designed to compete in the growing minivan market and has been sold in various markets around the world.

History[edit | edit source]

The Toyota Previa was first introduced in 1990 as a replacement for the Toyota Van. It was notable for its unique mid-engine design, which provided a balanced weight distribution and improved handling. The first generation Previa was available with a 2.4-liter inline-four engine and offered both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

In 2000, Toyota introduced the second generation Previa, which featured a more conventional front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. This generation was available with a range of inline-four and V6 engines, and it offered improved interior space and comfort.

The third generation Previa, introduced in 2006, continued to build on the success of its predecessors with updated styling, advanced safety features, and more efficient engines. This generation was also available with a hybrid powertrain in some markets.

Design and Features[edit | edit source]

The Toyota Previa is known for its spacious interior, which can accommodate up to eight passengers. The minivan features a versatile seating arrangement, with seats that can be folded or removed to create additional cargo space. The Previa also offers a range of convenience features, including power sliding doors, a rearview camera, and an advanced infotainment system.

Safety has always been a priority for the Toyota Previa, with features such as ABS, ESC, and multiple airbags available across various models. The third generation Previa also introduced advanced safety technologies such as lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

Variants[edit | edit source]

The Toyota Previa has been sold under different names in various markets. In Japan, it is known as the Toyota Estima, while in some European markets, it is sold as the Toyota Tarago. The Previa has also been available in different trim levels, including base, LE, and XLE, with varying levels of equipment and luxury features.

Discontinuation[edit | edit source]

Production of the Toyota Previa was discontinued in most markets by 2019, as the demand for minivans declined in favor of crossover SUVs and other vehicle types. However, the Previa remains a popular choice in the used car market due to its reliability and practicality.
